Want to go to California? Take a flight! It was as simple as that. In the early days of flight, all one needed to do was to get to the nearest airport and buy a ticket to the destination and wait for the next flight to take off. In the beginning, the VIPs used air taxis because they could afford it and it gave them that one-upmanship. Of course, it got them to their destinations faster. However, they switched to commercial airliners because it was safer, more comfortable, dependable, and in some cases more luxurious too. Most of the commercial airlines have different classes of seats like (i) tourist (ii) economy and business class, and (iv) First Class, the fares varying accordingly, the first class being the most expensive. When a top business executive or a celebrity books an air ticket to someplace by First Class, he enjoys several benefits. Firstly, he need not wait in a queue to get in the aircraft; the check-in counter is separate for First Class passengers. He just walks through after the usual baggage check and metal detector scans. And then he travels in real comfort with more leg space between seats; in fact he can even sleep comfortably on long hauls. They serve free drinks and a better choice of food, and best of all, he gets to hobnob with other celebrities! (Good for the business!) Eventually things changed. The world has got crowded. Lot more people wanted to fly to places than there are flights available. With the result, one has to reserve the seats early; stand in a queue to get on board. Added to all this, the security measures have become more stringent these days because of the threat of terrorism. Your hand baggage is thoroughly checked, you are scanned by a metal detector, your luggage goes through an x-ray machine, and in case there is a slightest suspicion, you are grilled and medically examined, frisked and finally let free only if the authorities are satisfied that you are above board. At the end of it all, you may not feel like flying again! This may happen to any passenger, any class, any time, just by pure chance! Top business executives, celebrities and stars do not appreciate this kind of negative propaganda and the inconvenience involved; therefore have started to fly once again by private jets, sometimes their own, and in some cases rented or chartered. A full circle!
